Couples Should Wear Face Masks When Having Sex To Cut Spread Of Coronavirus, Experts Say

When it comes to sex, coronavirus is on par with saying your ex’s name in bed when it comes to mood killers.

It goes without saying that the pandemic has put a massive dampener on many of our sex lives, but scientists’ latest advice on how to get frisky without contracting the virus kills passion dead in the pan.

A new study by Harvard University, which looks at the safest ways for people to have sex during the pandemic, has advised that couples worried about transmission from partner-to-partner should wear a face mask during intercourse.

First and foremost, the study says that “all forms of in-person sexual contact carry risk for viral transmission,” and it may come as no surprise that kissing is an easy way to catch the virus from your partner.

They advise avoiding sex partners with symptoms consistent with Covid-19, avoiding kissing, activities which can carry risk of fecal-oral transmission (such as oral sex) and semen.

While research is still limited, a small study of coronavirus patients found traces of the virus in some of their semen samples. “Until this is clarified, urine should also be considered potentially infectious,” the study notes.

Giving some tips about how to stay safe during corona-sex, the study advises wearing a mask, showering before and after intercourse and “cleaning up the physical space with soap and alcohol wipes“.

Unsurprisingly, abstinence and self masturbation are the lowest risk approaches to sex in order to not transmit the virus. Sigh.

Lead author on the study, Dr Jack Turban, said: “For some patients, complete abstinence from in-person sexual activity is not an achievable goal. In these situations, having sex with persons with whom they are self-quarantining is the safest approach.”

Of course, as on Monday (1st June), it was made illegal to have sex with someone from a different household in your home.

According to the update in The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) Regulations 2020 bill, the law states: “There is a gathering when two or more people are present together in the same place in order to engage in any form of social interaction with each other, or to undertake any other activity with each other.”

It adds: “No person may participate in a gathering which takes place in a public or private place outdoors, and consists of more than six persons, or indoors, and consists of two or more persons.”

However, the government did make clear that police aren’t allowed to barge into people’s houses and make arrests.

Guys, if you’ve got someone to legally have sex with, might be time to invest in a face mask.
